'Exploiting glass compositions for energy efficiency'

Brian Noble, GTS

Summary:  In the pursuit of energy efficient glass melting the area of glass composition and raw materials is often over looked.  This presentation reviews worked carried out by GTS showing that the composition of container glass can be radically reformulated to reduce the melting temperature,
showing that over 100 °C can be saved. A short case study showing how choice of basic raw materials such as sand can affect the batch free time and the energy efficiency will also be discussed.
